The constitutionally-mandated census, conducted every ten years, provides data in determining fair political representation; directs the allocation of key resources to states, localities, and families; and helps businesses decide where to build and grow. In an attack on immigrant communities, the Trump administration has proposed adding a citizenship question to the 2020 census.
Adding this question to the census will discourage participation and threatens the accuracy of the count. Make no mistake about it – this is a blatant attempt to undermine the 2020 Census and the latest effort to further marginalize immigrant communities.
The reason to oppose the citizenship question is simple—this decision intimidates immigrants and sacrifices the integrity, fairness, and accuracy of the census.
Take the Pledge:
I pledge to complete the 2020 census. In solidarity with undocumented communities I also pledge to NOT complete the citizenship question in order to make it safer for undocumented residents to be counted.
