YWCA Dance & Fitness classes run throughout the year in three sessions, Fall (September – December), Winter/Spring (January – May), Summer (May – August) allowing for more dance class opportunities for everyone!

Drop in anytime to try a class for $12! Or save money by purchasing a YWCA Class Card! You pick the dates and classes you want to attend!

YWCA Class Card Rate

  • 4 class card – $45 |
    • with membership $40
  • 8 class card $85 |
    • with membership $75
  • 12 class card $115 | $9.58 per class
    • with membership $105

The YWCA class card is valid for 90 days.

Extension policy: For $10 you can extend your class card for 45 days. Extensions must happen before class card expires. Extensions can only be done once and must be done in person or over the phone.

Annual YWCA Membership only $20 and receive up to $10 discount on all dance and fitness Class Cards!

How to purchase a YWCA Class Card

Purchase a Class Card and apply sessions to any dance & fitness classes offered! Use all sessions in the same class or apply them to multiple classes. Classes fill quickly! You may sign up for classes:

  • Sign up for a Class Card In Person or By Phone – all major credit cards accepted
  • In Person – During our regular business hours – we accept cash, check and credit card
  • By Mail – Check payable to the YWCA
Enrollment Policy

  • Once a class has reached its full enrollment, the class will be closed.

Refund Policy

No refunds. A credit for the class may be issued only through the Program Director and is to their discretion. Any unused sessions from the Class Card are non-refundable. YWCA Class Cards are valid for 90’s after the first session is attended. If a class is cancelled the client may apply the session to another class offered. Refunds are only issued when the person has a doctor’s medical note.

Fall 2019 Schedule [September 3rd-December 5th]

Monday Classes

Argentine Tango: Fundamentals 

Fall Dates: Mondays, September 9th – December 2nd  at 6:30 pm

This beginner-friendly class will focus on fundamental techniques to prepare you for the social dance floor. Experienced tango dancers are welcome to attend to improve their dance.

Instructor: Jonas Aquino studied Argentine Tango in Buenos Aires, and have taught throughout the Bay Area.

Flamenco Dance

Fall Dates: Mondays, September 9th – December 2nd  at 7:45 pm

Explore the foundations of this dynamic art form of multicultural Southern Spain known for its intricate rhythms, percussive footwork with an emphasis on a strong, grounded and expressive upper body.

Instructor: Sara Ayala, Co-founder of Flamenco Vivo, studied in Spain with Flamenco masters.

Tuesday Classes

Fall Dates: Tuesdays, September 3rd – December 3rd at 5:15 pm

Learn to move more gracefully by paying attention to yourself. Gain mobility and ease at your own pace in this voice-led Feldenkrais Method ® awareness through movement class. Come see for yourself!

No previous experience necessary!

Salsa

Beginning Salsa

Fall Dates: Tuesdays, September 3rd – December 3rd at 6:30 

Ruth Caspary will teach a solid foundation of basic moves that students can use quickly! Learn to be a good Social Salsa Dancer.   Students are encouraged to repeat this level.

Bridge Salsa

Fall Dates: Tuesdays, September 3rd – December 3rd at 7:45 pm 

Bridge Salsa is for Advanced Beginners.  We add key moves such as hammerlocks and wraps to your foundation. Students will learn smooth transitions from basics into these moves and build up mini-patterns.

Bellydance: Technique & Combinations

Fall Dates: Wednesdays, September 4th – December 4th at 5:45 pm 

This class is open to dancers of all different dance backgrounds and levels. Learn body isolations, shimmies, and basic layering techniques in a fun and supportive environment. Each day we will learn a short combination that will utilize the techniques learned in class.

Bollywood and Bhangra Fitness Class

Fall Dates: Wednesdays, September 25th – December 4th at 7:00pm

Come learn the energetic Bollywood dance style! Join our classes which focus on various routines, techniques of Bollywood, fun, and fitness.

Bharatnatyam

Fall Dates: Thursdays, September 26th – December 5th at 6:30 pm 

An accomplished artist, Asavari Devadiga is a Bharatnatyam dance performer, choreographer, and teacher. Through a career spanning more than three decades, Asavari has performed in a number of dance festivals and television programs in India and the U.S. In addition to classical dance, she has participated in folk dance and theater. Asavari has won critical acclaim and prestigious awards for her graceful and rigorous performance style. Her performances are marked with grace and perfection in pure dance and restrain and subtlety in Abhinaya (expressional dance) together with lucid explanations. Asavari also has been a Bollywood teacher at YWCA where she has received overwhelming positive feedback.

Instructor: Diana is a San Francisco based dancer who has been performing at weddings, festivals, restaurants and fundraisers for over a decade. From modern American fusion styles to classical Egyptian raqs sharqi, she has studied under greats such as Natalie Nayun, Sherry Brier, Elizabeth Strong and Suhaila Salimpour. Complimented by a year of cultural study in Egypt, as well as ballet, hip-hop and Central Asian dance training, Diana enjoys sharing the art of belly dance as a tool for cultural study, self-expression, and physical self-awareness.
