Young Women Financial Literacy Program

The YWCA Berkeley/Oakland is dedicated to eliminating racism, empowering women, developing leaders and promoting peace, justice, freedom and dignity for all. The hallmark programs of the organization work toward fulfilling this mission, including the Young Women Financial Literacy Program. The program addresses the growing need to educate young women in finance and increase their financial independence and economic success.

To empower young women and develop future leaders, the YWCA Berkeley/Oakland provides the Young Women Financial Literacy Program that includes the annual Young Women and Money Conference in Oakland offering attendees resources for budgeting, investing, and credit management, and a new Financial Literacy Summit for high school girls in the Oakland Unified School District.

About the Young Women and Money Conference [December 1, 2018]

This conference has been an enormous success the past 10 years. The target population is young women of color in Oakland and the greater Bay Area between the ages of 18-30. Our goal is to give as many young women the opportunity to learn about financial literacy as possible. The conference has been held at the Oakland Marriott Hotel and includes, keynote speakers, workshop presenters, a three course lunch, and raffle prizes throughout the day. We see many new faces as well as returning attendees. Some returning attendees have formed sisterhoods and encourage each other to achieve their financial goals. The day is all about empowering young women!
