About the Racial Justice Program:

The YWCA is committed to eliminating racism and developing leadership in our community. The Racial Justice Program aims to create peace, justice, freedom and dignity for all people by promoting racial understanding and tolerance, providing opportunities for growth, leadership and power, and advocating for policies and programs that are socially and racially just. All programs offer 1-2 units ED 97/197 per semester. Applications available at the YWCA.

Pre-Kindergarten Enrichment Program (PEP) (top)
Volunteer with 2-5 year-old kids!
1-2 units ED 97/197 per semester. Approved field study units for Education Minor.

Provide low-income 2-5 year old kids with key literacy and math skills they need to have a head start in kindergarten! Create your own lesson plans, play games, teach academic and social skills, and have fun while serving our youngest community members!

TechGyrls Club (top)
Mentors Needed for Spring Semester!

Change the lives of elementary and middle school girls through an innovative and exciting mentoring program. TechGYRLS matches female UC Berkeley students with underserved girls in Oakland to foster positive relationships through the medium of technology. Co-instructors teach the girls how to animate, create web pages, and much more!

Racial Justice Advisory Board (top)
Raise community awareness about racial justice issues through the Advisory Board Internship!

Help develop an original racial justice awareness campaign for the Berkeley community, as well as college workshops for Oakland high school students through the Racial Justice Advisory Board Internship. This internship will challenge you to research racial justice topics, collaborate with other motivated students, and design a powerful workshop.

Confronting Racism Seminar (top)
1-2 units of Ethnic Studies and Education 97/197 units available. Meetings will be on Wednesdays, time TBA.

Gain exposure to the roots of racism while challenging yourself to confront, change and resist racism within yourself and in the world around you. Become activists by developing skills and confidence to be change agents in personal, academic, work and community settings.
