The YWCA Berkeley/Oakland is dedicated to eliminating racism, empowering women, developing leaders and promoting peace, justice, freedom and dignity for all. The hallmark programs of the organization work toward fulfilling this mission. The Economic Empowerment Program (formerly known as the Young Women Financial Literacy Program) addresses the growing need to educate young women in finance and increase their financial independence and economic success.
As part of a new initiative, we are rebranding our program to promote digital literacy skills, as well as financial literacy skills. The new program includes the annual Young Women and Money Conference, a Financial Literacy Summit, financial literacy workshops, and digital literacy workshops.
To volunteer, please fill out the digital application above. If you would like to learn more about the program or would like to partner with us to bring these workshops to your school or organization, please email the program director at firstname.lastname@example.org.
Fall 2021 Events and Programming
Join the Economic Empowerment Program today! Raise awareness on the importance of financial literacy to increase financial independence and economic success in our community. This fall, we will be planning the Young Women and Money Conference and workshops to promote financial and digital literacy for the Berkeley/Oakland Community. Weekly program meetings will be held on Mondays from 10 to 11 AM at the YWCA Berkeley/Oakland.
Financial Literacy Initiative
This fall our team will plan workshops and modules on financial literacy for high school students, YWCA members, and other community members. In weekly meetings, EEP volunteers will also learn about financial literacy.
Digital Literacy Initiative
Due to the COVID-19 pandemic, we have been plunged into a digital world. At the YWCA Berkeley/Oakland, it is our goal to uplift our community. In partnership with Grow with Google, the Economic Empowerment Program will be organizing and hosting workshops to practice and teach digital skills. Workshops range from basic skills necessary for navigating a digital world to more in depth trainings for entrepreneurs and business professionals. Through these workshops, participants will gain confidence and practical skills. The Economic Empowerment Program is also working to incorporate digital literacy into our other YWCA Berkeley/Oakland programs.

14th Annual Young Women and Money Conference
The Young Women and Money Conference has been an enormous success the past 13 years. Our goal is to give as many young women the opportunity to learn about financial literacy as possible. The target population is young women of color in Oakland and the greater Bay Area between the ages of 18-30, but is open to people of all ages. This year the conference will be a two day, hybrid event. The dates for this year’s conference are Friday, December 3rd (virtual) and Saturday, December 4th (in-person at the YWCA Berkeley/Oakland). This unforgettable event includes, keynote speakers, workshop presenters, a three course lunch, networking opportunities, and raffle prizes throughout the day. We welcome both new faces, as well as returning attendees, and no financial knowledge is required to attend! Some returning attendees have formed sisterhoods and encourage each other to achieve their financial goals.
