Community Resources
The YWCA Berkeley/Oakland hosts community resource drives throughout the year, providing community members across the East Bay access to essential needs. As cost of living increases, it is vital to host these drives to ensure immediate access to food, clothing, menstrual products, skincare, holiday toys, and more are provided.
Menstrual Equity Drives
Through this initiative, we are partnering with local organizations to collect, assemble, and distribute menstrual care packages to individuals, shelters, safe houses, and community organizations across the Berkeley/Oakland area. We believe that menstrual care is a necessity, not a luxury, and we are committed to ensuring access to these essential products.
Food Pantries
We host various food drives throughout the seasons to provide produce, cans, and milk cartons for all community members to combat against food insecurity and to ensure our community has access to the nutrients they need.
English in Action
English-In-Action (EIA) is a program that connects volunteers who are native English speakers from the community with language partners who are seeking to improve their English conversational skills. Currently, EIA is creating partnerships for low-income immigrants, refugees, and asylum seekers who are looking to build a connection and improve their English skills. EIA Volunteers and partners meet in-person or online 1-1.5 hr per week by pairs or in small groups. Volunteers and partners also have opportunities to meet others in the program at volunteer meetups, where volunteers share their experience and learnings with one another, English Corners, where partners have a chance to practice English in a group, and twice a year at our annual Holiday Party in December and Spring Luncheon in May, where participants bring their favorite dish from their culture to share with others.
Digital Literacy
YWCA Berkeley-Oakland curates digital literacy workshops for our community members to gain technical skills in applications part of the Google Workspace (Gmail, Calendar, Drive, Meet, etc.) at no cost.
