Shadow Day 2026

  • YWCA Berkeley/Oakland 2600 Bancroft Way Berkeley, CA, 94704 United States (map)

About Shadow Day: YWCA Berkeley/Oakland has organized its annual Shadow Day program for its 32nd year, inviting high school students from the East Bay to shadow a UC Berkeley student (you!), and explore their future goals. You'll have the opportunity to take your high school mentee to mock lectures and other activities, show them around campus, and share your experiences about undergraduate life. Can't hang out with your mentee the whole day? No problem! Mentors will work together to lead students throughout the day.

Organizers of Shadow Day intentionally recruit and connect high school students with current UC Berkeley students who share similar interests and backgrounds to build community, share resources, and to be able to support each other's journeys in navigating higher education and beyond. Altogether, Shadow Day aims to increase access and equity within higher education, and serves as a space for student leaders to connect, forge new paths, and build collective power.

Make an impact by assisting YWCA staff in carrying out Shadow Day events, including set-up/clean-up of activities, leading student groups to meeting locations, and overall staff support. To clarify, this form is NOT for individuals who are interested in being mentors.
