Come meet local Oakland author, Carolina Ixta, and come talk about anti-black racism, colorism, toxic parenting, poverty, and teen pregnancy.
In collaboration with Chicanx Latinx Student Development (CLSD), Gender Equity Resource Center at UC Berkeley (GenEq), and Mujeres Activas en Letras y Cambio Social (MALCS), the YWCA Berkeley/Oakland will open its space to the community to meet Carolina Ixta, a daughter of Mexican immigrants and Oakland native. She received her B.A. in Creative Writing and Spanish Language and Literature at the University of California, Santa Cruz, and her Master's degree in Education at the University of California, Berkeley. This February, Carolina's sophomore novel, Few Blue Skies, was published.
Her critically acclaimed debut novel, Shut Up, This Is Serious, was a Morris Award finalist, an LA Times Book Prize finalist, the winner of the Pura Belpré Award, and was named one of the 101 best young adult novels of all time by Parade Magazine talks about important topics, relevant in today's world and political climate!
